Lakeside Manor Retirement Reno

What makes a retirement home “good?” It’s a really good question and one that we’re going to address in today’s blog. When you’re looking for a retirement home either for yourself, or a loved one, keep these attributes in mind as you tour the facility.

Respect – Retirement home residents should be treated with respect, regardless of their physical or mental condition. The staff needs to be friendly, supportive, caring, and most of all is respectful while providing required care. Staff members should also show respect for the privacy of their residents in all aspects of dealing with them.

Activities – A good retirement home will offer their residents a variety of activities that encompass social, physical, and educational interactions. They should also encourage their residents to interact with the communities outside of the retirement home. They should offer planned outings, exercise classes, games, dance classes, or some other engaging activity that keeps their residents sharp.

Good Food – This one is kind of a no-brainer. You could have the best facility in the world but if you serve your residents terrible food… I think my point has been made. Moving on!

Homelike Surroundings – A good retirement home will make their residents feel welcome and like they’re at home. If the residents feel uncomfortable then there’s something wrong.

Clean Environment – Hallways should be clear of obstacles and there shouldn’t be any odors like Urine or Feces in the building. If you notice anything like this, leave.

Openness – Family and friends should be able to stop by anytime, within reason, and see their loved ones. There should be a feeling of openness and freedom.

These are just some of the qualities you should look for in a retirement home. Ultimately it will boil down to personal comfort in the community.
